A barber was wrongful thrown into prison for over a decade. When he finally made it out alive, he was devastated to discover that the judge who gave him the sentence raped his wife and took his daughter. Ultimately, he was told that his wife then took her own life by ingesting arsenic.

Themes

1) revenge can blind: With his amazing barber skills, he could made a name for himself somewhere else. Instead, he let himself fill up with rage and ultimately, destroy any chance of a better life…..

2) monsters are everywhere: A narcissistic and deviant judge, who after raising Todd’s daughter, Johanna, as his ward, planned to marry her?! Actually he was spying on her in her room all these years….No words….

Conclusion

This movie featured some of my favourite actors and actresses, but especially for fans of Harry Potter, the late Alan Rickman (Professor Snape). He was the villian, Judge Turpin.

Helena Bonham Carter was Todd’s partner in crime, Mrs. Lovett, the meat pie maker. Carter was the devilish Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series.

Also, a very young Jamie Campbell Bower was the admirer who was determined to save Johanna from the judge. Bower was Jace Wayland from Mortal Instruments and a young Grindelwald in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part One.

As this was the movie adaptation of the Broadway play, there was a lot of singing and I enjoyed it!
