Movie Review: Small Foot

Have you heard of the legend of the Big Foot?

“Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, in Canadian folklore and American folklore, is an ape-like creature that is said to inhabit the forests of North America. Supposed evidence of Bigfoot’s existence is based on a number of disputed short videos, photographs, visual sightings, casts of large footprints, etc. ” —Wikipedia

But in the Himalayan mountains, it was known as the Yeti.

“In Himalayan folklore, the Yeti is a monstrous creature. The entity would later come to be referred to as the Abominable Snowman in western popular culture. The names Yeti and Meh-Teh are commonly used by the people indigenous to the region, and are part of their folk beliefs. “—-Wikipedia

Summary

Migo was a Yeti who lived with his family in the mountains. In his village, the Small Foot was just a legend. The humans were known as the small foot.

One day, he bumped into one and brought him home. The chief of the clan forbade him from sharing this knowledge, believing that the truth could destroy their existence.

Migo was distraught as he wanted to share the truth, but was afraid that the truth would cause the doom of his loved ones.

Themes

1) family: The struggle between following in the expectations of the family or to follow in his own beliefs was torture for Migo. But, family was the most important for him, even though what he believed in was opposite of his clan’s beliefs.

2) mythology: For centuries, humans had spoken of different mythological creatures. What will happen when we actually find them? Will we be so afraid that we would chase and hunt them down? And put them in cages?

Conclusion

This feel-good animation was not all happy and joyful. I enjoyed the twists and turns of Migo’s adventures. Definitely will be watching it again with the little ones.

    1. That’s interesting that she saw it that way… I can see how she can have those feelings though… especially when migo was shown the caves and was told that he had to lie to hide the truth…?
