Silk Road: Jia Yu Pass (Great Wall)

As one travelled along the Silk Road, one must admire the Great Wall. Along this Great Wall, stood the Jia Yu Pass (嘉峪關).

The pass was a key waypoint of the ancient Silk Road….Jia Yu Pass is the first frontier fortress at the west end of the Ming dynasty Great Wall, near the city of Jiayuguan in Gansu province. Along with Juyong Pass and Shanhai Pass, it is one of the main passes of the Great Wall.Wikipedia

Leaving the gates of this pass meant that one would be venturing out into the unfamiliar Gobi Desert. For our ancestors, that meant no one was coming back……

  2. Great photos! Too imagine what it must have been like to travel into the unknown. I’m always amazed antiquity of architecture that still stands today. Thank you for the trip through time.
