In my culture, the Winter Solstice was the same day as what we called, “做冬”. It was a time that we would eat a special dinner together with the immediate family.
My favourite part was the dessert, “湯圓” which were little glutinous balls filled with sweet sesame paste or peanut butter inside, floating in a ginger and rock sugar sweet soup.
“The winter solstice, hiemal solstice or hibernal solstice, also known as midwinter, occurs when one of the Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt away from the Sun. It happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere.” Wikipedia
I am looking forward to the shortening of nights. Hopefully, more sunlight means better feelings of hope! I really need it!
