Spending less than a day in Paris, what was there to do?
I arrived in Paris that night just to get ready for my next leg of my 2016 Mediterranean cruise trip….. Not my ideal as I always dreamt of visiting France as a child, but for a longer amount of time….
That night, it was raining and dark. But in the darkness, the Eiffel Tower glowed. I also noticed that there were protesters on the streets, so I asked the policemen if it was everything was okay.
He replied, “Oui, oui! Ok!”
A Parisian Morning
There wasn’t a lot of time to wander around before I had to leave Paris. I still remember how I was so impressed at the architecture of Notre Dame.
I felt very sad when the fire happened a while back…. thankfully, no one was hurt that year.
After shopping at Galeries LaFayette for my Eiffel Tower charm and some other little souvenirs (no luxury shopping for me though), I needed to savour some yummy gelato from Amorino at their Île-De-Paris location.
Look at my pretty gelato flower!
“Amorino offers you an authentic Italian ice-cream, made with only natural ingredients, with no artificial colouring or flavourings. Our ingredients are sourced from only the most reputable suppliers and appelations and are worked in the traditional manner, respecting the Italian savoir-faire.” — Amorino.
Arc de Triomph
“The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.“—- Wikipedia
My next visit was to the the Arc de Triomph. It was a tricky place to take a photo as cars were circling around the site.
It continued to rain….
Saying Au Revoir
Before leaving Paris, I just had to visit the Eiffel Tower one last time. I will be back!
“Constructed from 1887 to 1889 as the entrance to the 1889 World’s Fair, it was initially criticised by some of France’s leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but it has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognisable structures in the world.[3] The Eiffel Tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world; 6.91 million people ascended it in 2015.“—- Wikipedia
Buying some macarons at the Ladurée pâtisserie at Paray-Vieille-Poste.
I love Paris, although I haven’t been there for maybe ten years. I used to go around once a month. https://strokesurvivor.me.uk/2019/06/19/i-heart-paris/ , if you are interested.

There’s so much to see and do in Paris that you’d need at least a month to do it justice. So why not start with its icons? (Excluding the ice cream)

I do hope you get to return and spend a bit more time there. I went once decades ago when I was a kid of 12 or 13 with a school group and we were put up in a university dorm, all male I might add. I loved what we got to see, but it wasn’t long enough. I wanted to see the Louvre, and much more. Fingers crossed that we both get to see it again 🙂

Louvre was closed that day or else I would’ve went too…..

I love Paris…and it looks like you certainly packed a lot in those 24 hours. I haven’t been back since 2017. That must be fixed by 2021….

Paris is always a good idea even for if it is only for 24 hours.

In 1998, my mom was on the phone telling me that Dad was going on a business trip to France. She told me that she could go too, but she didn’t really want to. I said, come on, Mom. You’re 48 years old [she was at the time], and you’ve never been in another time zone, and you always talk about how you learned French in high school so you could talk to your grandmother and now you never use it. I think you need to go on this trip. She did, and she enjoyed it so much, and she was talking about it for years.
I, on the other hand, have never been outside of the USA and two parts of Canada. I’m hoping to do a lot more traveling when I’m retired someday, especially if I never end up having a family of my own.

My mom finally went on nonstop trips after her own mother passed as she was living with my mom… I tell her to go as much as she can when there are others like her sisters are going….

I know I shouldn’t make this something I wait for, but I’m also very busy, and I get tired and overwhelmed easily, and I have to take care of myself too.
