It’s Remembrance Day.
From a very young age, I would talk to the children about the WW1 and WW2. I bought age appropriate and educational books about these important wars that showed the cruelty and sadness that the world had seen. Too often I saw how people forgot about the sacrifices of many that helped form the world that we lived in today.
However, there were stories of courage and kindness too. Reading and watching documentaries about how so many castles in England turned into hospitals, about how many high profile people smuggling the persecuted people out of the country….
One example, Highclere Castle was turned into a hospital by the 5th Countess of Carnarvon for the injured soldiers in World War One. Even during Second World War, it was the home of evacuees. You might recognize this castle as the family home in Downton Abbey.
The Diary of Anne Frank made a huge impression in my younger days. I read and read how this young teenager had to face the torture of growing up and the reality of war.
While my Grandmother was alive, she used to tell me the few memories she had as a young child about how life was during the Japanese Invasion…. I have watched many documentaries about the resistance that many Chinese put up during that time.
I have travelled to a few war and war-related memorials in the world, from Vietnam, Korea and America. It’s hard for me to not get emotional each time.
Thank you for the sacrifices of all the brave soldiers who gave up their lives.

Being Dutch, Anne Frank’s journal was a common requirement in high school to read. I love her thoughts she wrote down. in Amsterdam, there is a small statue of her, in front of the house she lived (and hid). Thanks for remembering the ones who gave up their lives!

I got to see a theater production of The Diary of Anne Frank not too long ago. It was heart-breaking, but also so inspiring to see how bright her spirit was even in that terrible time.

Chocoviv ever heard the story of Sadako and 1000 paper cranes ?
There so many who don’t show respect to Veterans and offended by the poppy but yet many have no idea what the colours mean or why you wear one.
And to DIY is insult

As the myth goes if Sadako could make 1000 paper cranes the ancestors would restore her essence so she could be with her family.
There are still areas today were the affects of Hiroshima can be seen and suffering remembered.
Hiroshima was revenge from US for Pearl Harbour in December 7th 1941
