I enjoy historical series of ancient Korea. So even though I am not familiar with the actors and actresses in it, I saw the synopsis and I knew I needed to watch it.
Summary
It began with Goo Hae Ryung, as a highly educated noble lady, who refused to get married to just any man. She believed that women had more purpose in life than just get married and have babies. So, at the old maid age of 26, she decided to apply to become one of the country’s first female historians in the royal court.
On the other hand, Prince Dowon was forced to live in insolation deep inside the palace walls due to a mysterious reason. He rebelled by secretively write romance novels and had his loyal servant smuggle them out into the city. There he became famous as a romantic novelist that all the ladies adored. The only exception was Goo Hae Ryung.
Their paths crossed the first time in the city and then when she became a historian….. There inside the royal court, she dug deep into conspiracy and mysterious murders hidden in the past.
1. Feminism: I was surprised to see such a strong female role who fought all the norms of traditional Korean society of the past. She was so headstrong and demanded attention. I enjoyed it even more when she met three more fearless historians in court.
2. Dreams can become true: Prince Dowon dreamed of a romance of a lifetime and never stopped dreaming. Goo Hae Ryung believed that she could make a difference in her world and that she would only marry someone that she chose. Both of these things seemed impossible at the beginning….

Yay or Nay
It’s a Yay all the way for me. There was a lot of historical information about ancient Korea sometimes. But I enjoyed the education. Romance was a part of it, but not completely.
nice review.

I love this show! The historical information was fascinating to me, and the relationship between Dowon and Hae Ryung was so sweet. One of my favorite scenes is when Hae Ryung criticizes the tale of Rapunzel and Dowon looks so down. He was kind a male Rapunzel in some ways.
Thanks for the review!
