Dora the Explorer was a big part of my life. I first met her in Disneyland before my first child. The haircut that she had reminded me of my haircut when I was a little girl. Who is that??!!! I was very curious, but forgot about her until my daughter was born. Hence, Dora the Explorer came into my life again. Then, my baby grew up and that phase passed. Adios, Dora! Or so I thought….
I was very surprised that my preteen daughter told me that she wanted to watch the newest Dora the Explorer and the Lost City of Gold! Really? Apparently she had watched the trailer and was so happy that I was invited to the prescreening…..
Summary
It began with Dora and Diego as young children running around the jungle, until Diego had to return to the city of Hollywood with his parents. Then, ten years passed….
Dora’s parents wanted her to be a normal teenager and to spend some time away from the forest (talking to animals) and to meet teenagers of her age instead. She was very reluctant as she knew her parents were up to something with their search of the City of Gold. However, she missed her cousin, Diego, greatly and finally, agreed to go. She has a major culture shock when she arrives as Diego did not even seem to a bit happy to see her at all. Nor did he want her to attend the same high school as him…..
As part of their high school education, the class had to visit a natural museum and Dora, now know as Dork-a, and some of her other classmates, including Diego, entered a mysterious part of the musuem’s basement….
Themes
As I sat there, surprised at how much laughter I was hearing, I began to pay attention to some obvious themes in the movie:
• Growing up: The changes from a little innocent child to a teenager going into high school
• Bravery: Learning to face the fears of daily life and of the rainforest!
• Emotional maturity: The emotions of a little child to a young adult.
Yay or Nay
The audience loved it with their laughter and so do I! There was a lot of funny and surprising parts for the little ones and their parents, plus teenagers who grew up with Dora. I plan to watch it again with my little ones again! Yay!
I could tell from the beginning that this film could swing either way in terms of quality, so it’s interesting that from what I’ve heard and what you say, it’s quite decent.

🙂 Hmm. It looks as though I have a lot of catching up to do. I didn’t even know that there was a movie based on “Dora the Explorer”.
I plan on looking at “Dora and the Last City of Gold” in the near future.

Thanks for the review! I would much rather watch “family movies” like this than awful blood-and-guts action movies, or expletive-filled dramas. I’m adding this one to my list.

It sounds like a fun movie! I never watched Dora (too old!) and my kids are too young, but maybe when they are a bit bigger!
